Christian Bale Says Batkid Is a ‘Wonderful Story’

The saga of “Batkid” captivated the world over the weekend, as the city of San Francisco was transformed last Friday (Nov. 15) for a few hours into Gotham City and five-year-old Miles Scott, dressed as the Caped Crusader, got a chance to defend the town from the likes of the Riddler and the Penguin as thousands filled the streets to cheer him on.

Scott, who has been suffering from leukemia since he was 18 months old and is currently in remission, got his chance to don the cape and cowl through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with the story going viral as scores of volunteers and 12,000 onlookers came out to make his dream of being Batman come true.

A guy who knows a little bit about being Batman, Christian Bale, called it a “wonderful story” when we sat down to interview him about his new film, “Out of the Furnace,” on Saturday (Nov. 16) in Los Angeles. “It’s a symbol, you know,” Bale said about the power of the comic-book icon. “It’s a symbolic gesture. It’s not entirely relevant which actor is playing it. You know, the point is this is a character that goes beyond the actors playing it.”

And now little Miles Scott joins Bale, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton and Adam West in the small, elite group of people who have played the Dark Knight.

We’ll have more with Bale closer to the release of “Out of the Furnace,” which opens on December 6.
